Pitch evaluation:
What we need to change about our film to make it better:
We received feedback that our Prezi was really organised, well thought through, detailed, and appealing to the audience, however, to improve on, we need to re-think the idea of the film in order to make it easier for the viewer to understand what is happening and when scenes are taking place. We also need to make it clear that the genre of the film is a hybrid between Thriller and Horror and focus on what all of our target audiences are aimed at and the age groups they fit in.
We also need to update storyboards and shot lists as we might need to change some things or include more shots and scenes that we may not have included to begin with! Our group is really happy with how well the pitch went and have taken on board all feedback and things that we could improve on to make it even better!

Planning sound design - Leila Arar
How does sound identify the genre Thriller?
Sound helps understand the mood of the scene and hint significant parts in the film. Sound also adds suspension and tension in the movie. In thrillers, the sound often starts t a slow pace and builds up.
How do we intend to make the audience feel?
We want them to have an adrenaline rush. We want them to feel tense and a little scared while being excited for what's ahead.
Score, Sound and Foley
Start: from the first appearing image
(We intend to embed sounds with the main soundtrack)
Garageband: Swell Hit 03/02 and Stringer Swell 03

Our final idea!
Group 28 have chosen thriller as our genre as we strongly
believe that it relates to all of us as well as our generation. Our title
sequence type will involve titles onto still images and also on moving images.
These will include the credits with moving pictures; we have decided that this
type of title sequence will be the most effective because it fits in well with
our genre of Thriller.
A number of different films have inspired our group but the
one title sequence that stood out the most to us was Psycho. This is because it
features titles moving on a blank screen, although this doesn’t sound very
interesting, it actually makes the sequence flow well along with the sound,
with the pace speeding up towards the ending to create suspense.
We as a group also want to make sure that the title credits
that we include do not distract the viewer too much from what is actually
happening elsewhere on the screen, we want to make them subtle but noticeable
too.
Researching into existing distribution companies - second film

The marketing tools used to distribute the film - Social media, radio stations, magazines, posters, and billboards.
The role of social media - The distributors include websites for their target audience to find out more information needed about the film as well as their own Facebook page for the target audience to socialise on, Twitter, and Instagram.
Different formats the film is available in and type of release it had - Blu-ray and DVD's since it was released in 2001 there was a limited amount of areas to release the film in.
Any synergous links with other media - We may include synergous links such as a thriller type of soundtrack when the crime area is shown.
Is this distributor likely to distribute my film? - The distributors WarnerBros’s and DimensionFilms are likely to distribute our film because the genre relates to this film (The Others) and may also attract a similar audience to their film, aimed at people who enjoy watching Thrillers.

Shutter Island:

Distributors: Paramount Pictures, DreamWorks, Appian Way Productions, Phoenix Pictures, and The Montecito Picture Company
Marketing Tools: Promoting the film through posters, trailers, online, advertisement and cross-promotions, and interviews
The role of social media: Included Facebook page, website, social media accounts for the viewers.
The type of release: Shutter Island was scheduled to be released by Paramount Pictures in the US and Canada on October 2 of 2009. Paramount pushed the release date to February 19 of 2010. They did this because reports said that Paramount Pictures did not have the financing in 2009 to spend the $50 to &60 million to market a big awards pic like this. The film was premiered at the '60th Berlin International Film Festival' as part of the competition screening on February 13th of 2010.
Different formats the film is available in: Amazon instant video, DVD, BlueRay, digital etc...
The box office and DVD sales:
- box office sales - 294.8 million USD
- DVD sales - $27 million
Any synergous links: Soundtrack - throughout the entire film there is a total of 19 songs included in the film. For example, Fog Tropes-Orchestra of ST. Luke's, John Adams, Cry - Johnnie Ray etc...
Is this disributor likely to distribute your film?
The people who have distributed this film are very popular

The type of release it had - It was first release in the US on February 19, 2010, however, the film was meant to be released by Paramount Pictures in the US and Canada on October 2, 2009.
Different formats the film is available in - Amazon instant videos, DVD and Blu-ray, and Digitally.
The box office and DVD sales to date -

Target Audience:
As a group we aim our opening title sequence towards people (males) who are between the ages of 20-25. As films with a genre of Thriller (for example Shutter Island) usually include scenes of violence, screaming and death to fit the theme, we have chosen not to target our opening sequence at younger people (teenagers) because we feel they would be less engaged and interested in the film, so we have aimed it at people who are a bit older.

Shot by shot remake evaluation
Evaluation:
Writing down every shot in the sequence was really easy because the title sequence was based around wide shots, still/moving images or close ups. However, the making of the storyboard was slightly difficult because there was not a lot of detail on our drawings and we found it difficult to draw the images accurately and realistically. So we all had different jobs to either write down all the credits or try and draw all the images and different shots that were included in the title sequence for Gone Girl.
In terms of location, we used the college sixth
form to base our filming around; however, we found it tricky as not all the
scenes looked exactly the same as they did in the sequence due to the settings
not being the same. Also, we didn’t use any props or costumes because none were
used in Gone Girl, otherwise we would have tried our best to make our remake as
similar to the title sequence as possible.
Creating the title credits a challenge as we had to
find the same font that was used, so trying to get the same writing took up
some time. We then had to find the correct size that we thought would fit in
the shot well by positioning it. When deciding the font we was going to use was
correct, we didn’t want it to distract the viewers from what was going on in the
scene by looking at the writing so we chose not to make it that big and fancy
and instead faded it in and out of every shot.
The font type and size that we ended up using was successful
because it came out clear and legible to the viewer. It suited the tone of the
film because it was slow paced and the title credits slowly dissolved into the
next scene that we shot in that same way as Gone Girl.
One drawback was the fact that we only had our
college to use for the location and it made it difficult because in Gone Girl,
some shots included a beach and a man standing next to a car and house, which
we didn’t have due to us not being allowed out of the sixth form college.
Therefore we had to use the facilities of the college such as Owens Fields and
the canteen. It was also challenging because we as a group had a time limit and
didn’t have enough time to finish the whole remake, otherwise the end result
would have been much longer and more entertaining.
To end on, if we
were to re-do this task, I would choose a sequence where there was a variety of
shots as I think this one didn't have much context for my group to work with, compared
to other sequences that we could have chosen.
Genre Shortlist
Genre Shortlist -
Comedy: This type of genre is one I would
also keep in mind because a film with this genre can apply to everyone as long
as the adult humour isn’t too strong, but with the right characters, can help
make the film very watchable and entertaining.
Horror: I would consider choosing this type
of genre for a film because it is very captivating and gripping and, along with
sound effects and sinister/horror music helps with engaging the audience and
keeps them interested in what is happening.
