Behind the scenes

This is the behind the scenes image of James and Leila taken by Bleona at a nearby park close to the college as well as the canal on 15/12/16. This was us re-shooting for the scenes that we failed to get at Hamstead Heath due to them coming out too dark and unclear for anyone to see what was going on. Therefore, this day was successful because we managed to get more shots that we was happy with to include in our opening sequence.

Evaluating the rough cut

This is the evaluation of the first rough cut for our opening title sequence:

1. The sound that we have chosen to use is very effective and indicates the genre of our opening sequence as a horror really well as it creates tension and suspense, which fits nicely with the shot types we have included as well as the dark and mysterious lighting that goes with it. When we went to Hampstead Heath, it was getting dark which resulted in the shots that we took coming out unclear. This has meant that we had to re-shoot the scenes we failed to get that day and have been focused on getting the camera quality right, which we think we have done well, as all our scenes are understandable.

2. We need to sort through and edit our scenes in order to make the plot more understandable and to let the viewer know what is going on and who the characters are. In terms of performance of the characters, all three members of our group were involved in not only filming, but taking part in the acting as well. Along with the locations of school and the park, it becomes clear that the characters are teenagers who become friends at school, but we know something is not right because the genre is Thriller/horror.

3. We need to also include title credits and the 'Press Play Production' company we created, as well as including the other shots that we had to re-film so that there are no gaps in the sequence. Our use of mise-en-scene has worked well as we used fake blood throughout production to add a sinister element to the sequence. We used this is the park and in and around college to hint to the viewer that something is wrong as well as suggesting danger and death.

4. Once all the scenes we want are included in the opening title sequence and in the correct order, we hope that the storyline becomes more clear to the viewer so therefore, they get an idea of what is happening and so it becomes a lot easier to understand who the characters are and what might happen in the end. We will continue to work on the order of the shots so that they come out as we planned because at the moment the story as a whole isn't as clear as we would like it to be.

My smart targets

Things I can do to improve and develop my blog:

1. Firstly I will continue to add to my blog throughout production as well as posting our updated, more detailed storyboard for our title sequence.

2. I will also need to update our blog with any changes that have been made in terms of locations and if we need to change the plot in any way.

3. Finally, I will ensure that all blogs that are posted are set out in a different way, making them more interesting visually as well as making sure that everything makes sense and is understandable.

Blogging Health Check 2

Behind the scenes - Hampstead Heath

Evidence of group 28 filming at Hamstead Heath for our opening sequence and behind the scenes images that we took during the filming process - 10/12/16

Update on filming:

There has been a change in our production schedule as on Saturday 10th December, as planned we went to Hampstead Heath at 3pm by train to film. Unfortunately, when we got there it was getting dark and then started to rain. This caused the footage that we took to come out too dark and unclear as we didn't take any lighting with us on the day, which caused problems with filming. To move on from this, we have planned to go to the park opposite the sixth form college on Thursday 15/12/16 to re-shoot the scenes that we failed to get on Saturday as we need these to be included in order to make to make our opening title sequence.

Blogging Health Check 2

This is what I have to do to keep on task, which is to complete my preliminary task and to keep updating our blog throughout production. We are also going to change the roles in the credits as we need to make up the names to include but also we will include the names of the people in our group.

Blogging Health Check 2

This is the feedback that I have received from my blog posts and there are also some things that we need to change and add to our blog which I will make sure that I complete.

After effects ident for Sinister Escape

This is the ident that our group chose for our film. Leila made it using after effects when we were experimenting with the different designs that we were available. We all decided that this would be the best ident to use for our film company as it clearly links to filming and media and it also includes the clapper and 'press play' which people say a lot when they start to watch a film.

We will also use and include Paramount Pictures (a viacom company) to distribute our film as it will be mainstream instead of independent.

Casting auditions:

Sinister Escape!

For our film, we decided that all of us would take part and play a role in terms of being  character in the opening sequence. We have done this because our film was based around three teenagers at school, with one of them being the villain. Therefore, the cast of Sinister escape will include Bleona, James, Leila who all play a different character.

Photos of Group 28 filming!

These images were taken by different members of group 28 in and around the sixth form college as well as Owens Fields, the nearby park. We used fake blood in the park on trees and on the floor to create tension for the viewer and to make it understandable that this is a horror/thriller opening sequence for a film! These images also show Bleona, James, and Leila filming and using the camera equipment such as the camera, the tripod and props that we used (fake blood etc) this shows everyone what happened behind the scenes of when we filmed on 01/12/16!

Pitch evaluation:

What we need to change about our film to make it better:

We received feedback that our Prezi was really organised, well thought through, detailed, and appealing to the audience, however, to improve on, we need to re-think the idea of the film in order to make it easier for the viewer to understand what is happening and when scenes are taking place. We also need to make it clear that the genre of the film is a hybrid between Thriller and Horror and focus on what all of our target audiences are aimed at and the age groups they fit in.

We also need to update storyboards and shot lists as we might need to change some things or include more shots and scenes that we may not have included to begin with! Our group is really happy with how well the pitch went and have taken on board all feedback and things that we could improve on to make it even better!

How does sound identify the genre Thriller?
Sound helps understand the mood of the scene and hint significant parts in the film. Sound also adds suspension and tension in the movie. In thrillers, the sound often starts t a slow pace and builds up.

How do we intend to make the audience feel?
We want them to have an adrenaline rush. We want them to feel tense and a little scared while being excited for what's ahead.

Film idea - James Elliott

Thursday, 10 November 2016

Our target audience!

Our final idea!

Group 28 have chosen thriller as our genre as we strongly believe that it relates to all of us as well as our generation. Our title sequence type will involve titles onto still images and also on moving images. These will include the credits with moving pictures; we have decided that this type of title sequence will be the most effective because it fits in well with our genre of Thriller.

A number of different films have inspired our group but the one title sequence that stood out the most to us was Psycho. This is because it features titles moving on a blank screen, although this doesn’t sound very interesting, it actually makes the sequence flow well along with the sound, with the pace speeding up towards the ending to create suspense.

We as a group also want to make sure that the title credits that we include do not distract the viewer too much from what is actually happening elsewhere on the screen, we want to make them subtle but noticeable too.

Shutter Island:

Distributors: Paramount Pictures, DreamWorks, Appian Way Productions, Phoenix Pictures, and The Montecito Picture Company

Marketing Tools: Promoting the film through posters, trailers, online, advertisement and cross-promotions, and interviews

The role of social media: Included Facebook page, website, social media accounts for the viewers.

The type of release: Shutter Island was scheduled to be released by Paramount Pictures in the US and Canada on October 2 of 2009. Paramount pushed the release date to February 19 of 2010. They did this because reports said that Paramount Pictures did not have the financing in 2009 to spend the $50 to &60 million to market a big awards pic like this. The film was premiered at the '60th Berlin International Film Festival' as part of the competition screening on February 13th of 2010.

Different formats the film is available in: Amazon instant video, DVD, BlueRay, digital etc...

The box office and DVD sales:

  • box office sales - 294.8 million USD
  • DVD sales - $27 million
Any synergous links: Soundtrack - throughout the entire film there is a total of 19 songs included in the film. For example, Fog Tropes-Orchestra of ST. Luke's, John Adams, Cry - Johnnie Ray etc...
